If reading comics digitally is among your favorite pastimes, then it’s likely that you would appreciate having some of them stored on your computer. Even if your internet connection is stable and you don’t experience any dropouts, storing some comics you appreciate locally isn’t a bad idea.
To do that, you’ll need a dedicated tool to assist you with the process. Omnibus is such a tool, and it approaches this very simply: it uses the GetComics.info online comics library as the main and only resource, letting you download you favorite comics from there with ease: just look them up on the interface, and click Download.
The implementation is a very practical one, all things considered. Its interface is quite bare bones in that sense, as all you essentially get to do is look up the comics in the GetComics.info database. The selection is quite generous, so you’ll likely find what you’re looking for without much difficulty.
If you don’t want to search for anything in particular, there’s also the option of clicking Search while leaving the search field blank. This will display the most recent entries in the database, which can help you find something new to read.
To begin downloading, select a comic, then click the Download Comic button. Note that the program will display a short description of the entry, as well as its cover. You can download multiple comics at once, though I did have some issues with the app freezing when adding multiple entries to the queue.
In short, adding more than one entry would not let me interact with the interface. This included looking at other entries and using the search. All functionality returned to normal upon download completion, however.
I should mention that downloaded content will bear the .CBR extension. To open it, you’ll need a dedicated tool like calibre, for instance.
I’d say that Omnibus is very to-the-point: I was able to download comics through it relatively smoothly, so it’s really easy to recommend it to anyone interested in this art form.
