OverCAD Dwg Compare is a handy AutoCAD addon that lets you visually compare two .dwg files. Have you ever needed to spot the changes between two versions of a file? This tool does just that! It makes finding differences super easy.
Before you dive in, keep in mind that this program hasn’t seen updates for a while. It only works with older AutoCAD versions like 2002, 2004, and up to 2013. So if you're using one of those versions, you’re good to go!
Once you install this addon, fire up AutoCAD. You’ll see the OverCAD window pop up right away. Just look for the OverCAD menu, click on it, and select OverCAD Dwg Compare.
A new window will appear where you can either type or paste the paths for the two .dwg files you want to compare. If typing isn’t your thing, there’s a built-in file browser to help you find them easily. You can even compare folders full of .dwg files! Plus, don’t forget to tell the app where to save your comparison results.
The great thing about OverCAD Dwg Compare is that it checks all supported entities by default. But if you want to exclude any like 3DFACE or CIRCLE, you totally can! The differences will be color-coded: red for deleted items, yellow for modified ones, and green for added stuff. And guess what? You can customize these colors too!
You can also choose whether or not to consider layers, text height, z-axis position, colors and linetypes when comparing drawings.
When the comparison is done, both drawings will show up side by side in the main window. On the right side is a report window where you'll see details about each entity's type and status. You can switch between horizontal and vertical views too—super flexible!
In short, OverCAD Dwg Compare has some great features for checking CAD drawings quickly. It helps you find out what’s been added or changed between versions of your files without much hassle. Let’s hope they add support for newer AutoCAD versions soon!
