Password Strength Checker for Windows 8

Designed for computers running Windows 10, 8.1 and 8, Password Strength Checker is a simple app that enables you to check the strength of your passwords.

It doesn't include complicated options or customization settings, making it suitable for all types of users, even the ones less experienced with password generators. It's not necessary to have an active Internet connection.

Once downloaded from the Microsoft Store, the tool gets quickly integrated with the Start Screen in Windows 8 and 8.1, as well as Start Menu in Windows 10. It can be pinned to the taskbar or Start Screen to be able to quickly access it just like any other Metro app.

The application gets launched in full screen. It has a dark background and small area for typing or pasting a password, in order to determine its strength with the click of a button, shown in a percentage level.

The score is calculated by taking into account the password complexity, namely the length (number of characters), types of characters (lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, symbols), as well as whether or not it can be found in the dictionary (subject to dictionary-based attacks, as opposed to brute force attacks, which take a longer time and have a slimmer chance of cracking the key).

As expected from such a compact application, it didn't put a strain on the machine's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. We haven't experienced any compatibility issues, as it didn't hang, crash or prompt errors.

Thanks to its straightforward interface and options, Password Strength Checker offers a simple and clear-cut method for finding out the a password's complexity level based on multiple aspects. It can be easily handled by anyone.
