Complex passwords are slowly being adopted by more and more users, mainly in great part due to the increasing popularity of password management tools. Besides providing one with a secure vault in which they can safely store their passwords, such solutions also come equipped with password generator tools meant to enhance security.
If the password manager you’re currently using doesn’t have a generator you’re fond of, you don’t necessarily have to change it just for that. A tool like PasswordCreator can act as your generator, so that you can keep using your manager just as you normally would.
If you’re even somewhat familiar with password generators, then this one shouldn’t really be any different. Designed to offer a practical solution to the weak password woes, the program will, by default, generate passwords that will no doubt be complex enough to pass the registration requirements, as well as withstand brute-force attacks.
What you see is what you get, and I find this approach to work very well in this case. You can tweak the generation parameters to your liking, but it’s best to use as many layers of complexity as you possibly can.
Once a password has been generated, the user will be able to copy it to their clipboard and use it wherever they need. Keep in mind that it may only be pasted within a certain number of seconds, which can be modified on the interface. This is a nice touch, as it prevents your clipboard from storing the password for too long. It will not appear in your clipboard history either.
The program will also never contain passwords with the letters “I” and “l”, which are often difficult for users to recall. All passwords generated are meant to at least maintain some semblance of readability.
PasswordCreator works well, but unless you’re not happy with your manager’s generator, there isn’t really anything you’re missing out on.
