The availability of a host can be tested in all the operating systems using the “ping” command. While opening a command prompt instance to ping a host is a tool always at hand, there are also dedicated network-related applications that allow network administrators to perform ping operations. Such a tool is Ping Manager and, as its name suggests, it allows the management of multiple ping commands from a single interface.

Thanks to the well-organized tab-based interface, working with Ping Manager is a breeze. You can create a list of pages to ping, each with its own configuration that will be remembered by the application, so that you don’t need to fill in the same details again.

Aside from providing the host name, you also must go through a few parameters to configure the ping session. As such, you can set the number of retries and their delay, the timeout, the number of bytes to send in the package, and so on.

The results are shown in a table, along with the IP addresses, the name of the host, the sent and the received packets, the duration and the host status.

Ping Manager also features a tool that allows you to execute multiple ping commands simultaneously. The parameters are essentially the same as before, except that you can enter multiple host names in the list and ping them all in one go.

Not just that you can ping multiple hosts at once, but you can also run ping commands for entire IP ranges. The results are revealed in a similar way.

Despite its name, Ping Manager also comes with additional network tools, such as trace route and path ping. For your convenience, it can also schedule the execution of ping commands, with or without additional parameters in the command line. Moreover, the results can be saved to file, which makes it a valuable network tool for administrators, allowing them to monitor hosts periodically without having to manually ping the target hosts.
