Quick Eye

Sure enough Windows provides a bunch of comfortable tools with which you can perform most of the basic operations, such as file management and viewing. Needless to say that there are also various third-party applications which might be easier to use, and Quick Eye is a suitable example in this regard.

One first note is that the application comes in two versions, namely one for Windows 7 / 8.1 and one for Windows 10 which is downloaded via the Store. Don’t worry, because both are fitted with the same sets of features, with the only difference being the deployment method.

The application gets quickly installed and can be used right afterwards without having to restart your PC. You can check it out by simply hitting the spacebar, given a file is selected. What it wants to do is to provide an alternative file explorer and also viewer at the same time.

More than this, it comes with dedicated reading and playback support for particular file formats, such as PSD, HTML, BMP, PNG, GIF, AVI, MOV, MP4, MP3, WAV, WMA, and MID. Multimedia files benefit from neat playback controls because the application relies on Windows Media Player for playback. This means you get to use all of the player’s settings to your advantage.

Although you can’t change the assigned hotkey command for preview, it’s pretty comfortable overall. The application can also read the content of folder structures and archives. When inside  a folder, a side panel shows file thumbnails for quick preview and selection, while the rest of the space is for the actual content preview.

Performance is decent, opening supported formats quite fast. Although it’s a neat alternative for viewing an abundance of file types on your computer, it could have used at least basic file management options.

All things considered, we can state that Quick Eye is a neat application to try out if you’re ever looking for an alternative general file viewer and explorer. Even though it’s not fitted with file management options, it shows preview of various file types, and even provides playback support for multimedia files.
