Windows offers a great deal of flexibility by default when it comes to window management and arranging elements on the desktop. Web browsers, for instance, came up with tab support for comfortable navigation. In this regard, RadTab wants to enable this tab functionality for any window on your desktop.
First up, the application comes in a lightweight package and doesn’t require installation in order to function, which means it can enable tab support on any computer you use it on by simply carrying it around on a thumb drive. Registry entries remain unaffected by usage, so there’s no need to worry about the health status of the target PC.
On the bright side of things, the application doesn’t ask to restart the system to integrate itself, but does this instantly. On the downside, you might need to run it with compatibility settings in case any visual discrepancies show up. There’s a high chance this method solves any possible issues.
Unlike seen in common web browsers, RadTab doesn’t place tabs in the upper part, but rather just below the status bar. However, windows are not automatically resized to make the tab bar visible, so you might want to manually adjust target windows to be able to manage items of the bar. What’s more, all windows under a tab are all fitted to a specific size, and resizing one affects all of them.
You can assign a hotkey command to the program’s shortcut to add a tab to a window regardless of location. Tab bars aren’t added to all windows, but only to the one you initially select from the list. Further tabs can be inserted from the created bar, and also removed. Unfortunately, you can’t drag tabs to other bars, so they need to be removed from existing ones and added in the new location.
All things considered, we can state that RadTab manages to live up to expectations, implementing basic tab support to all windows on the desktop. Even if it does this in a pretty straightforward manner, it extends flexibility, and if window size and locations don’t really count, it helps better keep track of multiple items.
