Almost every program or video game you install on your PC makes some additions or changes to system registries for proper functionality. In time, conflicts can occur or leftovers affect the performance of your computer and this is where specialized applications like Registry Alert come in handy by giving you full control over what runs and shouldn't.

At its core, the application is built to look for any entries in your system registries that are not Windows default and ask you whether or not to block them from now on. Prompts are displayed in a modern and pretty simple interface that shows the specific file name, location and its corresponding key, as well as available operations you can perform.

There's no actual main window to work with. Besides the prompt itself, only a few more options such as adding new alerts or checking registries are accessible via the tray icon menu. These bring up different windows where you can manually add keys to the list of restrictions, or remove existing ones for that matter.

The overall process is simple and mostly requires you to choose whether or not the key to be removed. However, you need to pay attention to every prompt for the name and location so you don't stop important ones or end up with a malfunctioning operating system.

Depending on the registry type, you can choose to remove it, always stop and close the running process if the case applies. However, unless you manually add items to the list, you have to go through each registry item, with no implemented option to pick a single operation for all entries or make a simple selection from a list.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Registry Alert does just what the name suggests and unless you know what you're doing, chances are the application can do very little for you. Overall, it makes for a simple and efficient way to block suspicious or malicious registries from messing up your system, in an attempt to keep your computer in good shape.
