RETSNOM is a modern puzzle-platformer game with old-school looks that is designed to put your test your space orientation and understanding of symmetry to the ultimate test.

RETSNOM is a game in which you will take on the role of a father that has to find his way through a 2D pixelated and grey world in order to find a cure for his little daughter that, unfortunately, has been infected with a deadly virus.

Your purpose is made as clear as possible straight from the beginning, and despite its simplistic plot, it is quite enough to get you motivated on finding the cure. The cure you are looking for is in a future laboratory, and the laboratories are hidden inside some intelligently built mazes using mirrors.

Yes, almost every aspect of this game is related to mirrors, from the game’s name, which is backwards for “MONSTER” all the way to the interesting mechanics that enable you to literally swap matter from the environment in relation to your position.

Here are the basics: you can move the environment either to your left or to your right using the ALT key or combination of ALT + A or D keys. From here onwards, things get quite tricky, as you have to factor into account things like how the fog affects a mirror,  how does a concave mirror flip-twist the environment and what possible pattern to create without destroying other useful ones.

In plain words, despite its straightforward plot, simplistic gameplay, apparently simple puzzles, you will never get the sense that this isn’t a challenging game, quite the contrary. To make things even better,  the game's pixelart environment is very well made, with an overwhelmingly grey atmosphere that’s refreshed at times by very colorful elements.

Oh, and one more thought: if there’s one thing that immerses the player even more into the game’s atmosphere, well, then that’s the excellent soundtrack, that really deserves a little bit of praise, if not a standalone session of relaxed listening.

Remember the old-school Prince of Persia game? Well, translate that game to our times with the whole zombie obsession, add some interesting mirror mechanics, a sublime soundtrack, a very well designed pixel-art world, and some very challenging levels, and you have yourself one of the best games of the genre.
