Roadkil's Server Monitor is a tiny and portable utility that enables you to monitor your network connectivity for server downtime, connection dropouts, and high packet loss. It comes loaded with a bunch of advanced settings for experienced users.
Since there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the disk and just click it to launch the app. Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash drive to be able to directly run it on any computer with minimum effort. Unlike most installers, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving no traces behind after removal.
The tool is wrapped in a classical interface represented by common-looking windows with plain and simple structures. Taking one look at the GUI is enough to tell that Roadkil's Server Monitor hasn't been updated for a very long time.
You can get started by putting together a listing with all servers you want to monitor. As far as settings are concerned, you can specify the loop delay time, ask the application to automatically launch at every Windows startup until further notice, as well as modify the default, no reply times, packet loss percent and ping times to take into account for minor, moderate, severe and critical events. The monitor can start with one click, and you can check out log details in the main window.
No error dialogs popped up in our testing, and the tool didn't hang or crash. It had minimal impact on computer performance, running on low CPU and RAM. However, the fact remains that Roadkil's Server Monitor hasn't been updated for a long time. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free.
