Rockstar Games Launcher is Rockstar's own game launcher that hit the scene in September 2019. It launched right before the buzz around Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC. Looks like they wanted to ride that wave and get more people interested in this new launcher!
Right now, only seven of Rockstar's games are available on this desktop app, including RDR 2. Honestly, it feels a bit bare bones when it comes to features. Sure, it gets the job done, but who wants to juggle yet another game launcher?
You know how it goes—Steam, Origin, Epic, Uplay, Battle.net… the list keeps growing! So adding another one like Rockstar might leave some gamers rolling their eyes. While most of these launchers have a bunch of games you can play, Rockstar doesn’t have as many options right now.
The interface? It's kind of basic and reminds me a bit of Battle.net’s look but feels empty. You’ll see a collapsible sidebar for your games on the left side, with buttons for launching your games and checking out news on the right.
You can download and start your games here or even buy new titles if you want. Managing cloud saves is also part of the package. But here's something interesting: if you already bought RDR 2 on Steam or Epic, you still need to go through Rockstar's app to launch it.
In short, while the Rockstar Games Launcher does what it's meant to do—launch games—it feels pretty unnecessary for most folks. If you’re just looking to play some of their popular titles like RDR 2 or GTA 5 without buying them directly from Rockstar’s store, you'll still end up downloading this app anyway! You can check out more about downloading it here.
