Screen Off

A computer is already fitted with power options not only to shut down the computer and restart it, but also to make it hibernate, send it to sleep, or simply turn off the monitor in an attempt to save energy when not using the computer too often. What Screen Off wants to do is create a quick launch shortcut to turn off the monitor.

The application isn’t fitted with an interface of any kind, being a bundled package of codes that once launched, immediately take effect. No data is lost, and the computer remains in the current state, with only the monitor being affected.

Screen Off is built on the development platform that Microsoft provides as a default option. As such, the computer that runs the application needs to be equipped with .NET Framework. Modern Windows iterations come with the package built-in, meaning this component's installation shouldn’t be much of an issue.

There are a few ways through which the application can be accessed fast. If there’s no room on the desktop, a shortcut can be placed on the taskbar, to turn off the monitor at the press of a button. A shortcut can also be fitted by default with a custom hotkey. Placing it in the startup folder makes Windows load directly with the monitor turned off.
