Staring at a bright monitor screen late at night can be hard on your eyes, and there is evidence that it can even interfere with your sleep. Changing your display’s color temperature is a solution, but you need a utility that makes it easy to perform this adjustment.
ScreenTemperature is a very simple, lightweight application that lets you create multiple color temperature profiles and switch between them with configurable hotkeys. It is a basic alternative to f.lux that offers fewer features but has a couple of advantages.
From the main window, you can set the desired screen color temperature (from 2000K to 6600K) and then save it to a profile using a custom name. You can then switch between presets by just clicking an item in the list.
What’s more, you can assign a hotkey to each of the profiles. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be possible to use a key combination, and you can only bind the preset to a single key.
ScreenTemperature is clearly a very simple program, and it is difficult to compare it with applications like f.lux which offer a much more extensive feature set. However, the advantage is that this utility enables you to switch between presets with a single key press.
Once you’ve set up all your color profiles, you can just minimize the application to the system tray. When you press one of the hotkeys, the color temperature change will be performed instantly.
On the whole, ScreenTemperature is an interesting choice for users who need a program that allows them to customize their desktop color temperature. It keeps things as simple as possible, using a minimalistic UI, and it enables you to switch between multiple color profiles by just pressing a hotkey.
