Searchr is an application that helps you find text files on your computer, hence its name. It could be considered an alternative to the OS-embedded File Explorer, as it comes with multiple rules that allow for a more precise search. Unlike File Explorer, this program can deal with text files only. Not plain TXT documents, but any text-based items.

Searchr sports a somewhat modern and clean interface. There are no toolbars, menu, or hidden settings to it. What you see on display is what you get to work with. There are four initial text boxes and a directory selector. Input a search term and determine the search location. If you need to deploy file patterns in order to execute a more concise inquiry, you can use the other three boxes to include or exclude file patterns or exclude folder names.

Besides the input fields, one can also activate features that further increase the precision of the search. For example, You can conduct your scans using rules like file name, file path, regular expression, recursive, binary files, system files, case-sensitive files, or even hidden items.

The bottom half of the UI is reserved for the results list. Every detected file that matches your search terms will be placed within this list, along with their name, file type, directory of origin, file size, and even the number of contained lines. What's more, the app provides small icons for popular formats like PDF, HTML, XML, FLV, etc. Each result comes with a short context menu that offers lets you open a file in the standard File explorer, Command-Line tool, or Notepad ++ if present on your system.
