Apart from processes shown in the Task Manager, some applications also deploy specialized services. Even Windows comes with an impressive list of services to handle all of its features. Management is not for everyone, but if you’re looking for an alternative to the Task Manager, then Service Controller provides more info and controls.

Setup is over before you realize, and a system restart is not required to enable functionality. However, you need to run the application with administrator privileges so it’s able to gather all details and let you configure related options.

Launching it initiates the scan process, but it doesn’t take more than a couple of seconds to have the list built. By default, you’re taken to the services panel, but the application also reads installed drivers, and you can switch to this list at the press of a button.

Detected items are shown in an organized table, with the possibility to filter according to column headers. A great deal of info is shown, such as display name, service type, current operation status, file path, startup type, group name, and more. By default, the application only shows inactive items, but you can choose to show all of them, or just active ones instead.

Selecting an item shows general accepted controls, such as stop, pause and continue, shutdown, power event, and more, as well as error control level. However, it’s possible to bring up an info panel, which displays description, and lets you specify startup type, error control level, and change the current status of operation.

The entire list can be exported as a report under the CSV format. There’s a built-in search function which helps you instantly identify and drivers or services. If proper privileges are provided, you can also connect to a local or remote PC for similar analysis.

All things considered, we can state that Service Controller offers a great deal of info regarding installed services and drivers on your computer. It’s possible to connect to local and remote machines as well, but management needs to be carefully done to avoid any potential issues.
