Threats can even mean others sneaking through your files, reading important documents, and leaving the computer like it was before. Hiding files is one option, but if you can’t find such a file on your removable drive, since it doesn’t show up in search results, Show My Files can help you reveal them with little effort.
With no need to go through a setup process, the application is good to go from the moment download is done. This means registry entries remain intact during use, while also making it possible to carry it on a thumb drive, to use on other computers as well.
The application can only target files located on an external storage device, with nothing showing up in the device list if no USB drive is connected. What’s more, you need to plug in any external drives before the application is launched, because it doesn’t automatically detect new connections, and there’s no refresh button to manually trigger this.
Before you put the process in motion, the target drive must be selected, even if it’s a single item on the list. This means you’re only able to unhide elements from drives one at a time. Depending on the size, and number of files on the target drive, it can take a little while for the scan, and unhide operation to finish.
Sadly, you’re not taken anywhere after it’s done, and it would have been useful for at least the source folder of the drive to be brought up. In fact, there’s no built-in method of exploring files. Moreover, the final prompt only informs you of the status, and doesn’t specify the number, or any other related detail. The process is simple, with the application checking the hidden parameter status, and unchecking it if necessary for all files and folders.
Bottom line is that managing hidden files and folders through conventional Windows methods is no rocket science, especially since they can be kept visible at all times. Show My Files wants to unhide all files and folders on a target USB drive. It accomplishes this in a straightforward manner, but it can benefit from a few comfort tweaks, such as folder navigation when done, or at least enumeration of processed files.
