With Flash drives being used more and more because of their capacity, flexibility and transfer speed, you might want to keep stored data safe. This is easily done with the help of specialized applications such as Silfox Locker, which creates a private folder on your Flash drive only you can access with a security key.
The application doesn't require you to go through a setup process, but you can only run it from the removable storage device. One more thing you need to consider is the file system type, which sadly needs to be FAT / FAT32, otherwise the application doesn't start.
Running it for the first time requires you to set up a password, as well as a security question for more safety, in case you forget the password. These keys can always be changed from the settings menu. Once you're happy with configurations, the application creates a folder on your Flash drive in which you can store personal data.
The application doesn't protect the whole device, but only the folder it creates. However, you need to take it out for a test run, because the folder is created only after the first lock. Each time you run the application you need to provide the specified security key.
It's enough to copy target files and folders to the directory targeted by the application. If you can't see it in your file explorer just refresh and it becomes available. Hitting the “Lock” button automatically hides it, thus securing your content, with the reverse process being put in motion in a similar manner.
It can get a little difficult to set up at first, with no possibility to open the locker directory from the main window. However, a great deal of security is provided, with target files being hidden and no possibility to locate them with a search engine or manually providing the address, not even leaving the directory open.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Silfox Locker is a handy application you can use to hide important files from prying eyes. Unfortunately, not all content is locked, and you can only use it on FAT / FAT 32 file systems, but it lives up to expectations and deserves at least a try if you constantly have to work with data on a Flash drive.
