Simple Registry Editor

Almost every element of windows and some applications can be found and managed through registries. However, it’s not a thing for everyone, because messing up values can have an impact on your PC’s functionality. In case you do know how to handle them, Simple Registry Editor is a lightweight alternative to the Windows Registry Editor.

It takes only a little while until you get acquainted with the application, especially since it requires no installation to function. It can easily be used on other computers as well, even from a USB flash drive, but you need to make sure .NET Framework is installed on the target PC for things to work out fine.

Unfortunately, the application isn’t quite what you’d expect to find in an application dedicated to modifying the system registries, taking the word simple a bit to the extreme. In other words, the set of features is pretty poor, with only three input fields that you can manage, and a trigger button to change the value.

There’s only one action you can select, which is to set a value, while requirement fields need to be filled in with the target Key, appropriate value name, and value to set. However, you still need to rely on the default system registry editor to obtain these details.

Simple Registry Editor asks for administrator privileges on launch, just so it can access registries. What’s more, you need to be careful when setting values and where, so you don’t risk damaging your PC. There’s no confirmation of the process status, not any info whatsoever related to the key and items you provide.

To sum it up, Simple Registry Editor is far from being a pro, and doesn’t even feel like a stand-alone product, but rather an alternative way to set a custom value to strings, but still keeping the Windows Registry Editor active. No info is shown, and without any built-in browser, practicality has a lot to suffer.
