It’s important to make frequent backups of important files and folders, just so you don’t lose all your work in the event that something unexpected happens. Backing up a file simply means making a copy of it, and this process can be greatly enhanced with applications like SnailSync.

On the visual side of things, the application tries to keep it simple, with two panes for source and target folders, as well as a few buttons to quickly put processes in motion. Drag and drop isn’t supported, so you need to use browse dialogs to select sync folders.

You might end up scratching your head when trying to add folders in the two categories directly from header buttons, because they’re used to open existing file states, and projects, not source and target folders.

Hitting the add button brings up a small panel which is finally where you get to specify where to copy files from, and where to take them. Confirming doesn’t put the process in motion just yet. You get the chance to take a look over files and folders affected by this process, with color differentiation making it easy to tell where files are found.

What’s more, you need to make sure that you’re ready to sync selected folders, because once analysis is done, the sync process starts, and you can’t set up a task without going through at least once. However, you can save source and target states to file to load them later on.

You’re free to add multiple groups of folders to the process. Syncing needs to be manually performed every time, because there’s no built-in scheduler, or at least to automatically run processes when launching the application.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that SnailSync comes with good intentions, letting you set up multiple folder sync tasks, and initiate them whenever needed. Multiple states of source, and folders can be saved, but without a built-in scheduler, the process can become rather time-consuming.
