What is Soroban?

The abacus is one of the oldest tools for calculating numbers. Nowadays, it's mainly used for learning basic math like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If you don’t have an abacus but still want to learn how to use one, Soroban is here to help!

How Does It Work?

Adding two numbers is super simple with Soroban. Just choose the calculation mode and type in your values using the keyboard. The app will move the beads in the frame to show you the current value and results.

Test Your Skills!

You can also test what you know by moving the beads with your mouse and checking out the current value in the Property window. Since this app is built for quick calculations, it has lots of keyboard shortcuts that let you enter numbers, switch modes, and paste values from your clipboard.

More Than Just Basics

Besides doing basic math, Soroban can find the square root of a number too! It can even add up values from a text file quickly while showing each number in the main window.

Customizable Features

This digital abacus takes its name from Japan’s version called soroban. You can customize it by changing how many rods there are or where the unit point sits. Plus, you can switch up the bead texture and adjust how fast they animate.
