Spades is a trick-taking card game that can be played against a single opponent or in teams of two, and requires you to make an accurate assessment of your cards, in order to place the right bid before the hand begins.

Spades Pro allows you to play this game on your Mac, as you team up with a computer controlled partner and attempt to defeat your opponents, choosing from one of the three available difficulty modes.

If you are not familiar with the rules, it might be best to read up on them before you begin playing, as no in-game instructions are provided. They are not too complex, however, so you should get the hang of things in no time.

Your goal is to predict how many tricks you can take with the cards in your hand, and try to stick as close to that number as possible, provided you have already reached it.

Once the hand has ended, the game displays each player’s score, in addition to a detailed breakdown of bonuses and penalties.

You are teamed up with a computer-controlled partner, and your bids are combined, so you can help each other achieve your goals. The AI can employ three different strategies, depending on how adventurous or cautious you want them to be.

However, your teammate can sometimes be quite disappointing. While it is understandable that the AI cannot coordinate very well with a human player, your partner often becomes a hindrance.

If you want to play Spades on your Mac, and none of your friends are big fans of card games, Spades Pro can provide you with a reasonable challenge. However, nothing compares to playing against human opposition, and an online multiplayer mode would have made the game a lot more interesting.
