A Windows Spool file is what's generated when a printer queues up multiple jobs. The queue is limited by the printer's capabilities, and when you submit a larger number of print jobs that exceed that limit, spool files or SPLs are going to be created in the Windows directory, on your drive. SplViewer can help you open and view those files, and repurpose them by sending them to other printers or extracting their data as EMF.
SPL files are copies of the undeleted print jobs. Usually, these pieces of information are automatically erased when the printer finishes with it. However, one can opt to keep the print jobs as proof of action or for double-checking reasons. That can be done by accessing the printer's advanced settings and activating a feature that claims to keep printed documents.
SplViewer lets you open, view, and reprint any SPL you come by. You can save some paper by reviewing the print jobs before output, in case you decide to cut them short. If you are managing multiple printers, you can send print jobs between them with ease.
There is no limit on how many SPL files the interface can hold. Use the Windows menu from the toolbar to switch to the Cascade display. This separates the SPLs in tabs and minimizes them, allowing you to drag them around. If you click a spool file and execute the copy (Ctrl+C) command, its contents will be copied to the clipboard as EMF.
Launch a proprietary EMF application like MS Word, PowerPoint, or Publisher, to give some examples, and paste in whatever data the SPL held.
SplViewer is a handy program for individuals who do lots of printing during a normal day. Besides allowing one to access and view the elusive SPL files, it can be used for reprinting and data extraction purposes. In short, this app is a sharp little toy for the office environment.
