SPTD is an access layer that gives you direct control over your devices. It's different from the regular SCSI Pass Through Interface that comes with Windows. What’s cool about SPTD is that it helps you avoid issues caused by bad third-party drivers or sneaky rootkit apps, which can mess up performance.
The main reason SPTD was created is to boost the security and accessibility of storage devices. It also helps with managing data through storage virtualization, making your life a lot easier.
Now, don't think SPTD is just like any other access layer out there. Sure, it allows access to storage devices like the rest, but it comes packed with special features that make it stand out!
One thing to remember is that some applications rely on SPTD to work. If you uninstall those programs, SPTD will stick around on your computer instead of disappearing like other access layers usually do.
If there are other apps using SPTD when you uninstall one, they won’t be affected at all! Plus, if you're installing a new app that uses the same version of SPTD already on your machine, no need to reboot – how easy is that?
The newer versions of SPTD even create a System Restore point before installation. Just make sure System Restore was turned on before this!
You might find Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools using SPTD as well. But keep in mind it doesn’t work with kernel-mode debugging!
