StartClock

Today, everybody is looking for the newest applications, cutting-edge software that will improve the way one works or entertain themselves. Old applications are usually thrown down the memory hole, never to be resurfaced. However, some old programs are still compatible with the latest OS versions, just like StartClock. This tiny application places a clock on the start button, hence its name.

StartClock is a couple of years short of being around for two decades. Still, one cannot pinpoint this fact as the tool has no interface or installation process. The only elements that give away its age is the Windows XP-looking icon and maybe taking a look at its homepage.

Having a clock on the start button seems redundant, indeed, but each to its own. As long as you wish for such a feature, you should be able to get it.

StartClock was intended for older versions of OS, but it works relatively fine on Windows 10 as well. Why relatively? Well, the start button is not the affected area on Win10, but the nearby search bar. Hover the mouse over the search bar and the current date will also be displayed in a bubble.

The app was tested on Windows 11 as well, but this is its limit apparently. Windows 11 moved from the classical left-side position of the Start button to the center of the taskbar. Due to this fact, the app won't have any effect on Windows 11, so there's no reason to bother if you've already upgraded.

Given these points, StartClock provides its users with a new clock placed over the start button, for older OS versions, or on the search bar for Windows 10. No matter if you are a lover of vintage software or do really find a purpose for such a tool, as long as you want it, feel free to download it.
