If your computer is left running day and night, putting the monitor in power save mode is a good way to reduce energy usage. However, many applications can cause it to exit power save mode when you don’t want it to, which is far from ideal.
Super Sleep is a small utility that provides a solution to this issue, locking the display in power save mode until a user-defined keyboard shortcut is pressed. It enables you to shut down, restart or put your computer in sleep mode from the system tray.
If you don’t want to find that your monitor is on when you come back to your PC, this application offers an interesting solution: it locks the display in sleep mode regardless of any interruptions, so you can only wake it using a hotkey that you have configured.
The default key combination for waking the monitor is Ctrl+F10, and you can instantly put it in power save mode by pressing Ctrl+F11. These key combinations are customizable from the Settings panel.
The program is very easy to install, and you can access it from the system tray once it has been launched. While hotkeys can be used to wake and sleep your monitor, these actions can also be performed from the right-click menu.
What’s more, Super Sleep also provides you with an alternative way to shut down your computer, restart it, put it in hibernation mode or sign out of the current account.
When it comes down to it, Super Sleep is a relatively simple piece of software, but it can be very useful if you are having trouble keeping your monitor in sleep mode. It features a somewhat outdated UI, but it is very easy to configure and unobtrusive.
