SVG Import is a highly requested feature for OpenOffice.org. With SVG support, users have two cool options. You can either import SVG graphics to edit them in your documents or embed SVG graphics just for display. The first option lets you manipulate SVG graphics as mentioned in Issue:2497, while the second one simply shows them in your documents, as described in Issue:49991.
Each of these options has its own perks, and neither completely replaces the other. The filter provided helps translate SVG vocabulary into OpenDocument formats that you can easily work with using Draw.
