Temporary Folders

Daily routine operations require working with files that are needed temporarily. Many have the habit of saving all files to the desktop, cluttering the workspace unnecessarily. Of course, erasing the files once they served their purpose is necessary, since keeping them on the desktop occupies storage space.   On the other hand, Windows does come with a folder dedicated to temporary files, but this is usually populated by files and folders created by executed apps, so finding a specific item might be a bit troublesome.

Having that in mind, the developer of Temporary Folders created a lightweight application that can generate a new folder in the “TEMP” directory of Windows, allowing you to use it as a temporary folder and get rid of it once you no longer need it.

The application is easily installed, and a new shortcut is placed on the desktop, one suggestively named “New Temporary Folder”. Double-clicking on it automatically creates a new folder in the “TEMP” folder of Windows. A Windows Explorer window is instantly opened for the new folder, allowing you to use it freely by copying or moving data to this new location.

Once you are done, meaning you close the Windows Explorer window, the application prompts you to delete or preserve the newly created temporary folder and its contents. If the “SHIFT” key is pressed while hitting the “Delete” button, the directory and its contents is deleted permanently instead of being sent to the Recycle Bin.

Temporary Folders comes in handy when working with data that you only need temporarily. In such a folder you can place downloaded files you want to further attach to an email or share with others, the contents of an archive, a script file you need to execute, executable files of apps you need to install, and so on. The use cases are diverse and deleting the files you work with just for a little while is much easier and faster.
