Text Converter is a simple application that gives you the possibility to encode and decode text in binary, octal, hexadecimal, decimal, Base64 and ROT13 format. It can be used as an educational instrument for those just starting to learn Computer Science.
Since it's developed as a Metro app, you can download and install it from the Windows Store. It's packed in a user-friendly Modern UI that blends well with the flat appearance of Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 after setup.
Two large boxes are displayed on the main window, one for entering text and another for viewing the output. However, before typing or pasting text, make sure to select the operation type between encoding and decoding.
The default option is set to the encoder. In this form, you can input normal text to convert to binary, octal, hexadecimal, decimal, Base64 and ROT13 format depending on the encoding mode you're interested in.
You can ask Text Converter to show the output code with spaces, with spaces and indicators, or as one big blob (all characters are appended, without spaces).
On the other hand, if you set the operation type to "Decode", then you can carry out the reversal procedure, select the encoding method initially used, and reconstruct the original text to figure out what it represents.
There are no buttons implemented for copying or saving the information to file. On the other hand, you can take a screenshot of the visible content, then send the picture to one of your installed Modern UI apps that have a saving function, like Microsoft OneNote.
Unfortunately, the program crashed in our tests when we attempted to encode large text. Also, it would have been useful if it integrated a button for loading a text document, so you don't have to go through the trouble of opening a file just to copy its content and paste it into Text Converter.
To sum it up, Text Converter delivers a simple solution for converting text between regular, binary, octal, hexadecimal, decimal, Base64 and ROT13 format. Too bad that it doesn't support large text.
