The Lord of the Rings: The One Ring 3D Screensaver

The Lord of the Rings is a fantastic book series that has captivated the hearts of children and adults alike ever since it was released 1937. It became famous in all forms of media, from animated movies to toy-lines to the blockbusters we all know and love. To further imprint itself into your fantasy memory, The Lord of the Rings: The One Ring 3D Screensaver comes to take you and your PC on an imaginary trip to Mordor.

The screensaver is pretty straightforward: It's the famous One Ring floating and rotating freely in the air, with a map of Middle-Earth in the background. The lighting is beautiful, giving off a darkroom feel, with the diffuse light reflecting beautifully off the golden ring.  Even the glowing elvish writing is a wonder to behold, and coupled with the smooth, fluid-like animation you feel compelled to reach for the screen and try to put the ring on your finger to get hold of all of the Dark-lord's power.

Strictly from a design point of view, the screensaver is of the Highest quality, as the 3D model shows little to bo signs of blockiness indicating a high number of polygons, while the textures and reflexions are flawless.  One thing worth mentioning though is that during testing on a monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, the map of Middle Earth in the background showed severe signs of pixelation. This minor inconvenience is overshadowed by all of the other eye-candy and could almost go unnoticed.

From the "Settings menu" you can change some parameters of this screensaver, such as resolution, texture quality, the ability to enable or disable sounds or if you want to have the screensaver activated on all displays connected to your PCs (for those that use more than two screens).

All aspects considered,  The Lord of the Rings: The One Ring 3D Screensaver is a must-have for any die-hard fans of the franchise, and should come as to no surprise if you ever find yourself just staring blankly at the screen watching The One Ring while listening to epic fantasy music.
