TopNotify

Depending on how many apps you keep open or running in the background, chances are that you receive a ton of notifications frequently. Of course, not all of them are important, and it’s easy to miss out on important notifications due to the spam.

TopNotify is a tool designed to enhance your notification management experience and lend a hand with organizing the messages received better.

The app doesn’t feature a GUI, but it does include a settings window where you can customize the location and other elements of the notifications. I simply clicked on the System Tray icon of the tool to access this window. The app offered me 5 options to where the notifications should pop, meaning one of the corners or the middle.

The tool also allowed me to change the transparency of the messages, a feature that can be useful if you don’t really want to get distracted. By adjusting the transparency, you can maintain a clear view of your ongoing tasks while keeping an eye on new alerts.

I could also test how the warning will look with my new settings, so I could make further adjustments if necessary. Lastly, I could specify if I wanted the application to run on startup, so I don’t have to bother with launching the program every time.

The app is built around various interceptors, each handling different types of notifications. The interceptors run multiple functions such as start, update, reflow, and restart to manage notifications efficiently. Instead of repeatedly finding the window for every update, it uses the cached handle, thereby reducing CPU usage.

When the cached handle expires, the system finds a new one and caches it, ensuring smooth performance with minimal resource consumption. TopNotify is a powerful tool for anyone looking to take control of their notification system without affecting the PC’s performance.
