It is no news that touchpads are largely underutilized on Windows PCs. Some find them cumbersome, while others simply feel they’re more difficult to use than mice, without having any redeeming advantages.

Regardless of where you stand, enhancing the functionality of your laptop’s touchpad is a good place to start. Touchpad Numpad, much like its name would imply, is a tool that can turn your touchpad into a configurable numpad, while also featuring an Alternative Mode for additional customizations, greatly enhancing your trackpad’s usefulness.

While the program does manage to provide some added benefits for your trackpad, some users may find activating and deactivating these extra functionalities a bit unwieldy. During my testing, I still liked using a mouse best to move my cursor, leaving the program activated throughout so that I could use the trackpad as a makeshift numpad.

In short, the app assigns a function to each of your trackpad’s quadrants. There are two modes in that sense: Main and Alternative. The former basically turns it into a numpad, while the latter gives you quick access to a series of symbols and functions.

Both the Main and Alternative modes are customizable to some extent. This makes it so that you can modify them to more closely suit your needs: perhaps you have more use for symbols, in which case, you can freely customize what you assign to each quadrant. Note that you may also incorporate the Enter, Backspace, or Delete functions into your configuration.

Touchpad Numpad can further your trackpad’s functionality and make it more useful for certain workflows. Though the program worked well during my testing, some additional shortcut options would be appreciated: for instance, mapping some quadrants as F keys would be very useful for a variety of reasons, not least that it would make those keys easier to reach.
