Windows is packed with a high grade of flexibility, having different hotkey commands to help make work a lot easier. However, there are also specialized third-party alternatives like Typhoeus Hotkeys which aim to extent the use of hotkeys, making it possible to launch just about anything through them.

There’s only one thing to consider before installing the application, and that’s whether or not .NET Framework is already on your PC, because it’s a mandatory component for functionality. The last step of the installer offers to bring up the application, which quietly sits in the tray area when not directly used to configure commands.

Setting up a list of commands isn’t a difficult task. A few fields show up when a new set of commands needs to be configured, asking for a name, path to the target file, the status of the hotkey, as well the the trigger button, which can either be a number or a letter.

Note, however, that hotkeys don’t consist of multiple buttons here. You only get to assign a single keyboard button, which you use when activating a hotkey from the tray menu function. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t include a hotkey command to trigger activation mode, which does become a little frustrating.

By default, the application is set to run with Windows so that all commands are ready by the time you reach the desktop. On the bright side of things, you’re allowed to create multiple profiles, but these are called backups. You can thus save different sets of commands and load them depending on the type of activity you perform.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Typhoeus Hotkeys is sure to come in handy for quickly launching programs and even websites. The only downside to the whole operation is that there’s no actual hotkey to activate configured commands, and can prolong the process by taking you through the tray menu first.
