ULZ is a compression tool that you can use to reduce the size of any file on your computer. Thanks to this fast and easy to use LZ77 compressor, you can make a file’s footprint smaller in just a second.
There is no standard interface to ULZ, as it only runs as a console application. Despite that, the application is pretty easy to use. Running the executable in a command line window reveals its usage and all the available commands, not that there are too many.
ULZ can compress a file with the “c” command, followed by the compression level, which must be between 1 and 9. The names and locations of the input and the output files are also arguments that need to be specified. Once all the arguments are correct, the application starts compressing the input file. The original size and the resulting size are displayed.
ULZ is a simple compressor, not a regular zip tool for everyone, but the fact that it runs in the command line window allows developers to integrate LZ77 compression into their application.
