URL Shortener is an easy-to-use application that gives you the possibility to shorten the URLs of any websites with the help of the ad.fly service.
This is particularly handy for very long links which are difficult to decypher and, in some cases, impossible to transmit, such as posting tweets.
The interface is made from a small window with a neatly structured layout, where you can select the advert type between interstitial and framed, along with the domain between adf.fly and q.gs.
Once you've typed or pasted the URL of a website from the Clipboard into the dedicated box, all you have to do is click a button to instantly shorten it.
There are no buttons implemented for copying or exporting links to file, nor for shortening multiple URLs from multiple websites at the same time.
You can select and copy the new link by opening the right-click menu or by triggering the global keyboard shortcut, in order to paste it into your web browser and check results.
Since it uses the ad.fly service, those who receive the link have to wait for several seconds and view advertisements to be able to click a button and proceed to the website in question. There are no other notable settings provided by this utility.
As long as you have .NET Framework installed, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can save the downloaded .exe file to a custom directory on the disk or copy it to a removable storage unit, in order to seamlessly launch it on any computer with as little effort possible, provided that it has Microsoft's platform installed.
On the other hand, the app doesn't integrate new entries into the system registry or create files on the disk without your approval. In order to uninstall it, you simply have to delete this executable file.
Unsurprisingly, URL Shortener left a small footprint on the machine's performance in our tests, since it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. We haven't come across any issues, since it didn't hang, crash or prompt errors.
Thanks to its intuitive interface and options, URL Shortener can be easily used by those who want to quickly shorten URLs via the ad.fly service.
