Regular expressions or, in short, regex, are widely used in programming and language theory to specify search patterns with a sequence of characters that follow a set of rules. Whether you are familiar with regex or not, their potential cannot be denied. And what a better way to explore it than with an application that has regular expressions at its core?

As its name suggests, VOVSOFT - RegEx Extractor is a simple software utility that can easily perform regex-based searches and extract specific strings from text files based on specific rules. One of its advantages is that it allows batch processing, enabling you to perform searches within multiple files at the same time.

There are two flavors to this application: it comes with a standard installer, but a portable application is also available. As you might expect, the latter does not leave traces in the registry of the host system and can be launched directly, just by double-clicking on the main executable.

The main window sports a clean look, with all the search criteria at the top of the window. You can fill in the regular expression to use in your searches and proceed, but there are a few other criteria that you can customize to filter results even further. For instance, VOVSOFT - RegEx Extractor allows you to apply a filter to show results that start or end with a specific string or contains another.

Before hitting the “Start” button, you should also select the folder to scan. VOVSOFT - RegEx Extractor targets text and log files alike. File masks are also supported.

VOVSOFT - RegEx Extractor is a handy tool if you want to test your regular expression r simply perform searches within multiple files at once. The results can be easily exported to a file and saved for future use.
