There’s a high chance you get bored of the same image over and over again on your desktop background, but Windows comes with a dedicated customization tool in this regard. In case it looks too complicated, you might want to look up alternatives, and applications like Wallpaper Recycler might just be what you need.

One first note is that the application doesn’t even have to be installed in order to function, so it’s good to go from the moment download is done. This allows you to have it stored and carried around on a thumb drive in case you want to use it on other computers. Registry entries are not modified during runtime, so you can rest assured that the health status remains intact.

The application doesn’t come with an interface, so don’t worry if nothing shows up on launch. In fact, the first time you run the application a browse dialog is brought up on the desktop, which asks for a folder filled with JPG files and other type to be used in wallpaper rotation. This directory can be changed at any moment.

A tray icon is all you work with, which is fitted with a decent, simplistic menu. Here, you get the chance to change the wallpaper directory, generate a preview, quit the program, and specify the rotation interval.

Wallpapers are automatically changed at regular intervals. You have control over the time, with the possibility to choose from values ranging from 20 seconds to 24 hours. Unfortunately, the application doesn’t come with an option to run with Windows, but this can be bypassed by adding a shortcut inside the system startup folder.

All things considered, we can state that Wallpaper Recycler is a pretty straightforward alternative to the default Windows desktop customization tool. It quietly resides in the tray area, automatically changing the picture at a given interval. Sadly, it doesn’t let you set aspect ratio, startup change, or other advanced parameters.
