WHD

WHD is a small-sized and portable software utility that enables you to directly observe the content of any file type via decimal and hexadecimal display.

As installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the executable file anywhere on the hard disk and just click it to run.

It is also possible to save WHD to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, to be able to run it on any computer with minimum effort and without previous installers.

What's more, the tool does not add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving the disk clean after removal.

The interface is made from a regular window with a plain and simple layout. It is not striking in the visual department but simple to work with.

At startup you are required to point out a file by using the file browser. You can toggle between decimal and hexadecimal mode, go to the next or previous page, edit bytes, specify the starting position, use a search function when dealing with large amounts of data, as well as convert values from decimal to hexadecimal mode, and vice versa.

The simple-to-use application runs on a very low quantity of CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the overall performance of the computer. We have not come across any kind of issues in our tests, since the tool did not hang, crash or display error messages. However, the interface needs some major improvements from the graphical point of view.
