Home computer users usually do not have many windows opened on their desktop, but this situation changes when at work. Most people have to multitask with a high number of applications running, and an inefficient management of windows might impact their productivity. Software tools such as WinPosition are designed to solve this issue by providing a way to configure the layout of the workspace.

The application follows an uneventful setup process that sends it to the system tray, waiting for your command. Right-clicking on the system tray icon reveals its main menu, which allows you to pause the application's hotkeys, configure it to launch with Windows and access its settings.

The Layout Configuration window is the place where you can define different positions for the windows you are opening. The Numpad buttons can be used together with the ALT and CTRL keys to quickly place a window in a certain position on the desktop.

For each of the nine combinations of keys (the "0" numpad key is not used), you can define numerous locations that are added to your custom layout. Not only that you must enter the left and the top coordinates, but you also have to specify the width and the height you want the window to have.

Windows positions can be easily edited, deleted, or moved throughout the list. The layout can be saved or exported for future use and imported when needed.

Once you go through the configuration process, you can try out WinPosition. You just have to press the right key combination, and the active window is instantly sent to the corresponding position and resized to match the user-defined width and height. Pressing the same hotkey again triggers the next position in the same list, and so on.

WinPosition gives you the freedom to split your desktop in different panels and quickly place windows you open in specific areas of the screen. While this is certainly a tool that can increase your productivity, it would be nice if a few standard layouts would already be defined, such as a screen split in half, or in four or six panels. Your job, as a user, would be easier.
