What is WinPT?

WinPT stands for 'Windows Privacy Tools.' It's a handy set of programs that use GnuPG's encryption engine. This means you can easily encrypt your emails and digitally sign your content. Pretty cool, right?

What Can WinPT Do?

Using the OpenPGP protocol, WinPT helps you generate security key pairs. You can pick from options like RSA-RSA, DSA-RSA, or DSA-ELG for your ciphering algorithm. When you create a key pair, you'll get a private key for signing messages and a public key to share with others. Plus, if you've got GnuPG keyrings from somewhere else, you can import those too!

Easy Key Generation

The best part? WinPT has a super easy key generation wizard! All you have to do is enter your name and the email address you want linked to it. Once your key is created, WinPT minimizes to your system tray so you can manage it through the context menu.

Your Personal Key Manager

Inside the app, there’s something called the 'Key Manager.' This is where all your signatures are stored safely along with the issuer's ID, type of key, and validity info. If any of your keys get compromised or you just don’t need them anymore, revoking them is just a few clicks away! And yes, importing and exporting keys is also supported.

Signing and Encrypting Files

If you're looking to sign or encrypt files using one of those keys you've generated, check out the 'File Manager' feature in WinPT. It even lets you modify what’s in your clipboard using a special editor so that you can encrypt or decrypt text right from the tray menu. This works for any open window too—like when you're typing up documents!
