WiX Cover

WiX Cover is a lightweight utility that enables you to create MSI packages for your applications. While the tool is based on the famous WiX Toolset, it’s not as difficult to use and doesn’t require you dedicate time to learn the ins and outs. Considering that it’s limited compared to WiX Toolset, the program would work best for developers who are looking for convenience more than complexity.

The application relies on a configuration file in YAML format where you can add all necessary information to build the MSI package. At the same time, you can add and remove environmental variables to the target machine, import relevant registry as well as scan and package files and sub-directories from a root folder into the installer. You can configure the tool to launch after the installation is finished and remove the running processes associated with previous versions of the same installer.

You can get started by installing the application and then using the sample YAML file provided. If you already have a configuration file in YAML, then you can consider copying it in the editor that pops when you launch the app. In case you need help with building the MSI, then you can open PowerShell or other console app and type the following command get-help wixc.ps1 -Detailed.
