xplorer2 LITE takes the concept of File Explorer and adds several quality-of-life improvements that make navigating through your files and folders easier and more convenient.

The app features a rather functional design at first glance. The files and folders pertaining to your system are shown to you right upon starting the app, and you can browse through them as you see fit. In the case that a specific file the user clicks is a media-related one, xplorer2 pulls a Windows Media Player feed on the right side. While it may not seem like much, the addition helps a lot with usability by making such a process easier.

Right-clicking a file brings forth a typical File Explorer context menu, but with a few extra functions of xplorer2, such as the color tags option meant to help you with the organizing and reorganizing duties.

The workbench tab is where xplorer2 gets interesting. Though features like designating macro and user commands require the Premium version, the Lite variant nevertheless allows its users to make use of the functionality of the bulk rename and file-splitting options. There’s also a tags/comment feature, which allows for an easier sorting process.

Bulk rename can sift through files and change their extension and filename, whilst also providing an automatic counter — amongst others — to make the process that much more granular. The value of the split file function is also not to be disregarded, as it makes moving larger files much more convenient by splitting them into several chunks, which is quite the quality-of-life upgrade.

In conclusion, xplorer2 is worth a shot. Though a 64-bit version is only available via the paid tiers, users can enjoy the added benefit of this file manager irrespective of that. The native File Explorer is decent enough, but extra functions such as the ones mentioned prior — robust bulk rename, file-splitting, and others — make it worth considering if you want to take your file exploring just a notch above what Microsoft offers you.
