If you're reading this, then it's safe to assume that you're currently looking for a markdown editor. As we're sure you'll agree, this is easier said than done mainly because, from 2004 up until the present, a staggering number of apps of this sort have seen the light of day.
However, if it's a full-featured, comprehensive Markdown editor you're after, then you've come to the right place. Meet Zettlr, a cross-platform, open source, and Electron-based Markdown editor that promises a perfect mix of user accessibility and powerful features.
And, right off the bat, we're going to say that it doesn't disappoint. It boasts all the valuable features you want from an app such as this, including a powerful Markdown editor with quick preview (called Quicklook), snappy search possibilities, a typical yet useful file explorer, word counter, spell-checker, even a sort of customizable Pomodoro timer, as well as various export options to formats like HTML, PDF, ODT, DOCX.
Its looks are not all that bad either, even though it's safe to say that it's not exactly a gorgeous app to behold. Interestingly, the app moves away a bit from the typical GUI/layout pattern we have come to see in so many markdown editors and offers a more old-fashioned layout, which is not at all a bad thing.
There's a run-of-the-mill menu bar at the top of the main window, followed by a comfortable toolbar which bundles all the most important controls and commands (both global ones and for the Markdown editor). While we're on the subject, it's worth noting that it also sports a very useful Night mode and that it's also available in German, French, and both types of English (UK and US) in the case of the GUI and the Markdown editor alike.
Taking everything into account, Zettlr is indeed a very compelling markdown editor that is primarily aimed at users who do a lot of writing and besides the run-of-the-mill features also need to organize their documents within under a single roof.
It's not the most stylish markdown editor out there, however, it's hard to argue when it comes to its feature set, and its smooth functionality. And, for an Electron-based app, it's also surprisingly lightweight and resource-friendly.
