Even though Sticky Notes has been part of Microsoft Window's roster of tools for a very long time, very little has changed in terms of actual functionality.

The reality is that a modern note-taking app has to offer its users a lot more than Sticky Notes can at the moment. For example, some of the best sticky notes apps offer users cloud features, cross-device synchronization options,  the ability to create texts and to-dos, change the color and opacity, swap between multiple fonts, as well as add voice notes or memos.

So what's the biggest drawback of note-taking apps in general? Well, most note-taking apps struggle a lot when it comes to organizing content.

That is why users looking for a simple note-taking app might appreciate the functionality that zonote brings.

At its core, zonote is an Electron-based application that works on all major OSes such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The thing that differentiates zonote from most other note-taking apps is its versatility. At heart, it's still a note app, but it also comes with support for Markdown and, more importantly, tabs.

The fact that you are allowed to work with multiple tabs means that you are provided with an extra layer of organization, but it also means that you can work with a lot more notes more efficiently.

Of course, it provides all the basic features that most apps of this sort offer: you can still change the size and position of your notes, you can change the color of the notes, and thanks to Markdown, you can edit texts in various ways. It's also worth noting that the app works with pretty much everything you can throw at it.

You can add images (thanks to Markdown), you can work with tables, and it's not that bad when it comes to code either.

While not exactly forward-thinking or particularly impressive, zonote offers a very interesting alternative to users who want more from their note-taking apps.

It doesn't boast cloud and synchronization features, but as a simple note-taking app it works a lot better than most similar apps thanks to the support for Markdown and its tabbed interface.
